The issue will feature articles and research on how data management is advancing groundwater science.

(WESTERVILLE, OH — August 30, 2022) The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) announced a special issue of its research publication Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation® (GWMR) will be published this month on data management in groundwater science.

With emerging technologies such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence, data management has become an increasingly important aspect of groundwater science and environmental engineering.

The upcoming special issue of GWMR features the theme, “Special Issue: Focused on Data Management,” and was developed to highlight current practices and advancements in data management and explore its new relevance within the industry.

The special issue contains guest editorials, columns, and research articles focusing on such topics as graphical shading logs, virtual site investigation, and forecasting groundwater contamination using statistical data and machine learning tools. The issue is expected to be delivered to NGWA members by the end of the month.

“It’s not an exaggeration to say that with the introduction of tools that generate increasingly large datasets, data management will be an integral part of fundamental changes that are occurring in the research and commercial fields of hydrogeology,” said Dr. J.F. Devlin, editor-in-chief of GWMR. “This issue is exciting because it provides a snapshot of how those changes are evolving and impacting groundwater science today.”
