The two-day conference will focus on sharing technical knowledge and expertise regarding managed aquifer recharge.

(WESTERVILLE, OH — April 12, 2023) The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) will be holding its first conference focusing solely on managed aquifer recharge (MAR) in San Antonio, Texas, on April 24 and 25.

The conference, Managed Aquifer Recharge, Releasing Resiliency, Protecting Groundwater, will provide a forum for sharing technical, regulatory, and institutional lessons from the nation’s leading MAR experts. MAR is the purposeful recharge (resupplying) of water to aquifers for later use or other environmental benefits.

MAR has become an increasingly important tool for mitigating the economic, environmental, and public health impacts of water shortages and prolonged drought. MAR captures available water during wet periods, periods of low demand, or water that would otherwise be lost, and resupplies it to an aquifer for future use. While practiced for decades, MAR is of growing interest to many communities facing various water challenges.

The keynote speaker will be Robert E. Mace, Ph.D., PG, who is the executive director and chief water policy officer of The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment and a professor of practice in the Department of Geography at Texas State University.

NGWA has long been an industry leader in providing MAR research, education, and resources to the public and scientific communities. NGWA leads an ongoing MAR Working Group and has been involved in various research publications and legislative actions supporting MAR projects.

If you are interested in attending the conference or would like to arrange an interview with a presenter, please contact Ben Frech at bfrech@ngwa.org or (614) 898-7791, ext. 1570.
