Groundwater’s latest issue features guest editorial stressing importance of supporting National Ground-Water Monitoring Network

May 1, 2024

Past NGWA Board of Directors member Robert Schreiber, PE, BCEE, D.WRE, and David Wunsch, Ph.D., PG, wrote a guest editorial in the May-June issue of Groundwater® highlighting the importance of supporting the National Ground-Water Monitoring Network (NGWMN).

The NGWMN program was authorized by Congress within the SECURE Water Act of 2009 and managed by the U.S. Geological Survey since funding was first appropriated in 2015. The SECURE Water Act is scheduled to sunset later this year, and Schreiber and Wunsch write it is “imperative that groundwater professionals work together to ensure reauthorization of this vital legislation.”

Full nationwide coverage has yet to be achieved, and it’s up to groundwater professionals to “work to ensure its survival and growth,” the guest editorial argues. Schreiber and Wunsch then provide ways to participate in this effort.

NGWMN is also one of NGWA's priority issues
